Nelson’s career is filled with remarkable milestones. In 2013, he was honored with the National Design Award, celebrating his contributions to Cuban visual arts. A decade later, in 2023, he received the Eduardo Muñoz Bachs Design Award, recognizing his profound influence on the field.

Beyond his artwork, Nelson shares his passion for design through teaching and lectures, inspiring students and professionals across the Americas and Europe. Today, he leads creative projects and curates exhibitions at Fábrica de Arte Cubano, a hub of artistic innovation in Havana.
